Vikings Named ITA All-Academic Team; Schober & Lenoan Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – For the fifth straight year the Cleveland State women's tennis team has been honored for their academic success, as the Vikings were named an ITA All-Academic Team, while the duo of Jana Schober and Blanche Lenoan were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

As a team, the Vikings posted a grade point average of 3.40 for the 2017-18 academic year, earning ITA All-Academic Team honors for the 12th time over the last 16 seasons. Cleveland State was one of seven Horizon League teams to pick up ITA All-Academic Team honors, joining Detroit Mercy, IUPUI, Milwaukee, Oakland, Wright State, and Youngstown State.

"As a program, we are continually putting an emphasis on academics and success in the classroom, and to see the hard work pay off is awesome," head coach Frank Polito said. "There are so many demands put on a student-athlete throughout the year, and for Jana and Blanche to not only be successful on the court, but also in the classroom, says a lot about their work ethic and their determination to be excellent in all aspects of life."

Individually, Schober picked up her fourth ITA Scholar-Athlete honor after posting a 3.85 GPA during 2017-18, becoming just the sixth Viking in program history to earn the accolade all four years of their collegiate career.

In May, Schober graduated with a degree in business and supply chain management, finishing her academic career with a 3.87 cumulative GPA. During her time at Cleveland State Schober earned a spot on the Dean's List every semester, while she was also a four-time CSU Athletic Academic honoree, and a member of the 2018 Horizon League All-Academic Team.

Lenoan picked up ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades for the second straight year, earning the honor after posting a 3.55 GPA during the 2017-18 season while pursuing a degree in civil engineering.

As a rising junior, Lenoan has been named to the Cleveland State Dean's List four times, while also earning CSU Athletic Academic honors during both of her first two seasons with the Vikings.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letterwinner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above for the current academic year.
