Vikings Continue Dual Match Play At St. Bonaventure On Saturday

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will try to keep its winning streak alive this weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure for its lone match of the week on Saturday, February 24.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings picked up back-to-back wins for the first time this spring, earning a 4-3 victory over Bowling Green and a 7-0 win over John Carroll. With the two wins, Cleveland State improved to 19-6 all-time when playing in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. 

Schoenberg Named #HLWTEN Player Of The Week
For the second straight week Cleveland State picked up Horizon League Singles Player of the Week honors, as freshman Gaby Schoenberg earned the accolade after a 2-0 weekend at No. 2 singles. Schoenberg, who owns a team-best 7-2 singles record this spring, also has a team-high 12-7 mark on the year. Throughout the first few weeks of the spring season, Schoenberg has continually moved up the singles lineup, playing the last five matches at the No. 2 spot. 

Golawska & Spindler Pick Up Back-To-Back #HLWTEN Doubles Team Honors
The Cleveland State duo of Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler picked up their second straight Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week accolade on Tuesday, earning the recognition after a 2-0 week at No. 1 doubles. The duo notched a 6-3 win against Bowling Green and a 6-1 win against John Carroll, helping the Vikings clinch the doubles point in both matches. This season, Golawska and Spindler own a team-best 11-2 record, including a 5-1 mark at the top of the doubles lineup this spring. 

…Climb CSU Doubles Wins List
With their two wins last weekend, Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler now rank third on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 33 career wins as a tandem. Golawska and Spindler are one of just four teams all-time with 30+ wins, while they are now just five wins shy of moving into second place on the CSU Doubles Wins List. 

Golawska Improves On Career Win Total
Senior Aleksandra Golawska continued to add to her career singles record last weekend, picking up a straight set victory against John Carroll for her 61st career win. Golawska, who currently sits in 10th place on the CSU Singles Wins List, is now just one win shy of moving into ninth place, and nine wins shy of becoming the eighth Viking all-time to reach the 70-win milestone. 

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
Brian Etzkin is in his 16th year at the helm of the Vikings, owning a 202-192 dual match record. During his tenure, Etzkin has guided Cleveland State to three Horizon League Regular Season titles and three Horizon League Championship match appearances.

Scouting The Bonnies
St. Bonaventure enters the weekend with a 1-7 record on the year, with its lone win coming in a 4-3 decision against Slippery Rock. Cleveland State will be the first of two Horizon League opponents for the Bonnies, as they will also face Wright State later this spring. 

This will be the 10th meeting between the two teams over the last 16 seasons, with Cleveland State owning an 8-1 record in the overall series.
