Vikings Sweep #HLWTEN Honors For Second Straight Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight week the Cleveland State women's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Gaby Schoenberg was named the Singles Player of the Week and Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler picked up Doubles Team of the Week honors.

Last weekend, Cleveland State posted back-to-back wins against Bowling Green and John Carroll, giving the Vikings three wins over their last four matches.

Schoenberg, a freshman from Ingleside, Illinois, went 2-0 at No. 2 singles last weekend, picking up a 7-5, 6-0 win against Bowling Green and a 6-0, 6-2 victory against John Carroll.

This spring, Schoenberg owns a team-best 7-2 singles record, while she also has a team-high 12-7 mark on the year.

"I am so happy for Gaby to win this honor, she has been working really hard throughout the first few weeks of the spring season and is constantly putting in time to improve her game. This is a well deserved honor for Gaby, and her hard work continues to pay off on the court as she continues to move up the singles lineup," associate head coach Frank Polito said.

In doubles, Golawska and Spindler posted a perfect 2-0 record last weekend, helping the Vikings clinch the doubles point in both of their matches.

The duo earned a 6-3 win against Bowling Green and followed that up with a 6-1 win against John Carroll.

This season, Golawska and Spindler own a team-best 11-2 record, including a 5-1 mark at the top of the doubles lineup this spring. For their career, the tandem ranks third on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 33 career wins – one of just four teams all-time to reach the 30-win plateau.

"Isabella and Ola are one of the best doubles teams that we have had in our program, and for them to win this honor two weeks in a row is just awesome. Match after match, they continue to give us stability at the top of our doubles lineup, which we have learned throughout the season is something that we need. Hopefully they can continue this strong play throughout the coming weeks, and be a force to be reckoned with when we get to Horizon League play," Polito said.

The Vikings will return to the road for a single match this weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, February 24.
