Women’s Tennis Sweeps #HLWTEN Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up its first weekly honor from the Horizon League Tuesday (February 13), as the Vikings swept the Singles Player and Doubles Team of the week. Aleksandra Golawska was named the Singles Player of the Week, while Golawska and Isabella Spindler were named the Doubles Team of the Week.

In singles play, Golawska went 2-0 last weekend at No. 3 singles – the only Viking to be undefeated on the week. Golawska picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Oberlin and a 6-7(4), 6-1, 1-0(5) victory against Eastern Michigan, while her match against Tennessee went unfinished.

With her two wins last weekend, Golawska earned a spot on the CSU Singles Wins List, entering the week ranked 10th with 60 career singles victories. Golawska is one of just 10 Vikings all-time to reach the 60-win milestone, and needs just two more wins to move into ninth place on the list.

"Ola has been working really hard this spring, and for her to get this honor is just awesome. I'm so proud of how much fight she brings to each match and she continues to be a leader for us on and off the court. Hopefully she can continue her momentum throughout the coming weeks and help this team to another successful season in Horizon League play," associate head coach Frank Polito said.

In doubles action, Golawska and Spindler posted a perfect 2-0 record at No. 1 doubles, picking up a 6-0 win against Oberlin and a 6-2 victory against Eastern Michigan. The duo also had an unfinished match against Tennessee, as they were tied 3-3 before their match got suspended.

For the season, Golawska and Spindler have a team-best 9-2 record, including a 3-1 mark at No. 1 doubles this spring. The duo ranks fourth on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 31 career wins – one of just four Viking tandems all-time to reach the 30-win plateau.

"Ola and Isabella make a great doubles team for us, and the longer they have been playing together the better they get. They are one of the best doubles teams we have had in recent years and to see their continued success on the court is awesome. They are both very deserving of this honor, and I can't wait to see what is to come this spring," Polito said.

Golawska and Spindler helped the Vikings to a 6-1 victory over Oberlin on Saturday, marking the first win of the spring season for Cleveland State and the 200th career victory for head coach Brian Etzkin.
