CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team continued the 2017 fall slate Friday, beginning action at the Viking Invitational with a strong doubles showing.

"I was really pleased with our doubles play today, we have been working hard in practice on our doubles matches and I'm glad to see that work pay off today," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "Our top doubles team led the way, but overall I thought all of our teams played some solid matches today including the duo of Blanche and Kristina. Isabella was able to carry her doubles success into her singles match and I'm very proud of the win she was able to pick up against a 'big hitter' opponent."

In doubles play, Cleveland State's top team of Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler led the way, picking up a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot against West Virginia and Akron. The duo notched a 6-2 win against the Mountaineers and followed that up with a 6-3 win against the Zips.

The Vikings were also able to pick up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots against Akron, sweeping the doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Gaby Schoenberg and Jana Schober posted a 6-2 victory, while Blanche Lenoan and Kristina Fernandez earned a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Cleveland State's lone singles victory on the day came from Spindler at the top of the lineup, as she picked up a 6-4, 7-5 straight set victory over Cincinnati's Antonella Bramato. With the win, Spindler remained perfect on the season in singles play, owning a 4-0 record playing at the top of the lineup.

Action at the Viking Invitational will continue tomorrow (Saturday, October 7), with one round of singles play and two rounds of doubles matches beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
