Women’s Tennis Set To Host Viking Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue its fall slate this weekend, hosting the second annual Viking Invitational. The three-day tournament, which will run from Friday, October 6 through Sunday, October 8, will take place in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on the Cleveland State University campus.

Cleveland State will welcome three other teams to the MMTP for the Viking Invitational this weekend, as Akron, Cincinnati and West Virginia will compete in the three-day tournament.

2017 Viking Invitational Scoring
At the conclusion of play this weekend, there will be a Viking Invitational Singles Champion and Viking Invitational Doubles Champion. Points will be awarded based on lineup position, with the singles player and doubles team with the most points after three days of play being crowned champions. 

Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion
The Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion is Cleveland State's on-campus indoor facility, which features six temperature controlled courts and spectator seating for 200 fans. Construction of the MMTP was completed during the spring of 2016, with the first match being held on March 9, 2016. Golawska Closing In Top Singles Wins List
Entering the 2017-18 season, senior Aleksandra Golawska is closing in on earning a spot on the CSU Singles Wins List, entering this weekend's Viking Invitational with 54 career singles wins. Golawska, who became the 14th Viking all-time to record 50 career singles wins last year, needs just five more singles wins to crack the top-10 and six more wins to become the 10th Viking all-time to reach the 60-win milestone. 

Spindler Records Perfect 3-0 Weekend At Akron Shootout
During the first tournament of the fall season junior Isabella Spindler led the Vikings with a perfect 3-0 singles record. Spindler, who played all three matches at the top of the singles lineup, was named the Akron Shootout Singles Champion after picking up wins against Akron, Youngstown State and Oakland.
