Vikings Clinch Share Of Regular Season #HLWTEN Title With 7-0 Victory At Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – For the second straight season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has clinched a share of the 2017 Horizon League Regular Season title following a 7-0 sweep at Green Bay. With the win, the Vikings close out the regular season with a 14-9 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league action.

Cleveland State along with Youngstown State and UIC all finished the regular season with an 8-1 record - with all three teams earning a share of the regular season crown.

This marks the third time out of the last four years that the Vikings have captured at least a share of the regular season crown, with the first regular season championship in program history coming during the 2014 campaign.

"This was a good solid win for us to the end the regular season on today, the entire team stayed focused throughout doubles and singles play allowing us to come away with the victory," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "This group has put in so much work and effort throughout the season, and we are happy to have clinched at least a share of the regular season title. Now we have to keep that momentum going into the tournament next weekend and put our best effort on the court and fight for a Horizon League Tournament crown!"

Sunday's sweep over the Phoenix improved Cleveland State's record to 15-2 against Green Bay under head coach Brian Etzkin, while it also marked the second 7-0 victory in league play for the Vikings this season.

For the sixth time in league play the Vikings were able to pick up the opening doubles point, earning a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles from Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska and a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot from Princess Gbadamosi and Blanche Lenoan.

The win at No. 2 doubles marked the 22nd victory for the tandem of Spindler and Golawska, moving them into a tie for sixth place on the CSU Doubles Team Wins List. Gbadamosi also moved up on the individual CSU Doubles Wins List, earning her 56th career doubles win to move into a tie for eighth place after Sunday's victory.

At the top of the lineup, senior Victoria Bensimon notched her first No. 1 singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 decision, marking the first 20-win campaign of her career as she finished the regular season with a 20-14 overall record. The win also moved Bensimon into a tie for second place on the CSU Singles Wins List, as she now has 74 career singles victories.

Gbadamosi also added to her top-10 career singles win total after picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 spot, notching the 69th singles win of her career. Gbadamosi, who currently ranks eighth on the CSU Singles Wins List, needs just one more win to move into seventh place on the list and become just the eighth Viking all-time to notch 70 career victories.

Golawska and Lenoan also picked up straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The quartet of Bensimon, Gbadamosi, Golawska, and Lenoan finished the regular season with a 7-2 mark in league play, while Bensimon finished her career with a 28-4 record in regular season league matches and Golawska improved to 22-4.

Cleveland State's final two singles wins came from Spindler at the No. 2 spot and Jana Schober at the No. 4 spot for the 7-0 victory.

Cleveland State will now have to wait to find out what seed it will get for the upcoming Horizon League Tournament – which begins Friday, April 28 and runs through Sunday, April 30. The entire tournament will be hosted at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
