Vikings Drop First #HLWTEN Match Of The Season At Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team dropped its first Horizon League match of the season Saturday evening, falling to Youngstown State, 6-1. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 12-9 overall this season and 6-1 in league play.

Saturday's loss also snaps a seven-match winstreak for the Vikings, a mark that was tied for the longest winstreak over the last 15 seasons.

"This was a tough match today, but my hat is off to Youngstown State as they played very well today," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "Jana was definitely the highlight of the day for us, she bounced back to pick up a strong singles win and was also part of our lone doubles win with Victoria. Now we need to take care of business next week and finish out the regular strong before heading into the league tournament."

Cleveland State's lone point on the day came from Jana Schober at No. 5 singles, as she picked up a 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory to improve to 11-10 this spring.

Schober was also part of the Vikings' lone doubles win on the day, as she teamed with Victoria Bensimon to earn a 6-3 victory at the top of the lineup. With the win, the duo now stands at 11-7 overall this season and has a team-best 5-1 record against league opponents.

The doubles win also put Benimson into the top-10 on the CSU Doubles Wins List, as she is now tied for ninth with 55 career doubles wins. Bensimon joins classmate Princess Gbadamosi to be ranked in the top-10 on both the CSU Singles and Doubles Wins List.

The Vikings will close out the regular season next weekend, traveling to Milwaukee (Saturday, April 22) and Green Bay (Sunday, April 23) for the final two league matches of the year.
