Spindler Picks Up Horizon League Singles Player Of The Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After leading the Cleveland State women's tennis team to a pair of victories over the opening weekend of Horizon League play, sophomore Isabella Spindler has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week.

This marks the second straight week that Spindler has been tabbed the Singles Player of the Week, and also marks the third weekly honor of her career.

"This is a well deserved award for Isabella, she has been playing really well over the last few weeks and is starting to see her hardwork in practice pay off," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "The entire team has been working very hard over the last few weeks to get out to a solid start to begin league play, and I always believe when you continue to work hard, good things will happen."

Playing at No. 1 singles, Spindler picked up back-to-back wins against UIC and Valparaiso last weekend, helping the Vikings to a 5-2 victory over the Flames and a 7-0 sweep over the Crusaders.

Both victories came as straight-set wins for Spindler – a 7-6 (1), 6-3 victory against UIC and a 6-3, 6-0 win against Valparaiso. Spindler, who owns a 7-6 record when playing at No. 1 singles this spring, has won three straight matches and four out of her last five.

Spindler is one of five Vikings to own a perfect 2-0 singles record against league opponents so far this season, while she currently stands at 8-3 in Horizon League regular season matches on her career.

Cleveland State will continue league action this weekend, traveling to Northern Kentucky (Saturday, April 1) and Wright State (Sunday, April 2).
