Bensimon Picks Up Singles Victory In 6-1 Loss At Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened the 2017 Spring Season Friday evening, dropping a 6-1 match at Duquesne.

"This was a tough loss for us today, we played really well but came up just short," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "I thought Duquesne was a little more physical than we were today in both singles and doubles, which ended up hurting us in the end. Victoria played a solid singles match to put us on the board, and despite the loss, I really enjoyed the fight we had today and that is definitely something we can build on."

Cleveland State's lone point on the day came from senior Victoria Bensimon, who picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. With the victory, Bensimon became just the ninth Viking all-time to record 60 career singles wins, and now sits in eighth place by herself on the Singles Wins List with her 60 career victories.

Although she fell short in the end, Jana Schober was able to force her No. 4 singles match to a tiebreaker, falling 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (7).

The Vikings will continue the first week of the spring season on Sunday, January 22, traveling to Michigan State for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
