CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up action at the Viking Invitational Sunday, picking up a pair of singles wins from Jana Schober and Princess Gbadamosi.
"Overall I thought our inaugural tournament was a success, I thought the team grew from day one, to day two, to day three. I really enjoyed watching how the women competed together throughout the weekend, and I can see the future is bright for this team. I'm so excited about how this season can evolve, and we will start that process at practice next week," head coach Brian Etzkin said.
Schober picked up her singles win in a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (6) decision over Akron's Karalina Maksimava, while Gbadamosi earned her 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8) victory over Akron's Rita Pedroso.
Gbadamosi's win marked the 53rd of her career, as she is now just three singles wins shy of earning a spot in the top-10 in the CSU Singles Wins List.
"We had another good day of doubles, as we keep working on our attacking doubles. The doubles team of Aleksandra and Isabella was named the tournament doubles champion, which was a great honor for them after the weekend they had. Princess and Jana had a good day on the singles court today, picking up a pair of close victories after playing with a lot of energy," Etzkin said.
The Cleveland State doubles team of Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska was named the Viking Invitational Doubles Champion, after going 3-1 over the weekend at the top of doubles lineup.
Next up for the Vikings will be the ITA Midwest Regional, which will be hosted at Michigan State Thursday, October 20 through Sunday, October 23.
