Vikings Post Trio Of Singles Wins On Day 2 Of Akron Shootout

AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team continued its opening weekend of the fall season Saturday, playing a round of doubles and singles at the Akron Shootout.

"Unfortunately we weren't able to continue our momentum from yesterday, but we definitely had a few bright spots throughout the lineup," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "Overall I thought we played some good singles today, obviously Aleksandra, Isabella, and Blanche with their victories, but I also thought that Victoria and Jana played well in defeat. Our top doubles team was able to battle their way back to force a tiebreaker after being down 5-0, and I loved their fight and never give up attitude that they played with. We need to rebound for tomorrow, and come out playing some strong singles and doubles to wrap up the first weekend of play."

Cleveland State was able to post a trio of singles wins on the day, with Aleksandra Golawska, Isabella Spindler, and Blanche Lenoan each picking up a singles victory.

Lenoan, who is now 2-0 in singles play on her young collegiate career, was able to pick up a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Youngstown State's Elise Eckman, while Spindler posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nehel Sahni, also from YSU. Golawska battled for a 7-5 victory during the first set of her singles match, before claiming the victory after her YSU opponent retired.

The Vikings will close out play at the Akron Shootout tomorrow (Sunday, September 25), playing a final round of doubles and singles beginning at 12:00 p.m.
