INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After capturing the program's second Horizon League Tournament title, the Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up two major postseason honors from the Horizon League, as Isabella Spindler has been named the Freshman of the Year and Brian Etzkin has been tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Spindler is the fourth Viking to earn Freshman of the Year honors, and the third to do so under Etzkin. Spindler was also named First Team All-League, becoming the fifth Viking to earn a spot on the all-league first team during their rookie campaign.

After joining the Vikings in January for the Spring Season, Spindler has worked her way up the lineup, playing at the top of the singles and doubles lineup – the only freshman in the league to do so. Spindler has posted a 12-9 singles record this spring, including a 6-3 mark against Horizon League opponents. In doubles, Spindler has notched an 11-7 record, playing all but two matches at No. 1 doubles.

Etzkin is picking up Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time on the women's side, also earning the accolade in 2014, 2011 and 2004. Under Etzkin, Cleveland State has posted 186 dual match wins, making him the all-time winningest coach in program history.

This year, Etzkin and associate head coach Frank Polito guided the Vikings to their second Horizon League Regular Season title and a program-best 8-1 record in league play.

Spindler and the top-seeded Vikings will begin play in the Horizon League Tournament with a semifinal match on Saturday, April 30.
