CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second straight year, Cleveland State had five of its intercollegiate programs receive Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition from the NCAA when the NCAA made the announcement on Wednesday.

The awards are presented each year to teams finishing among the top 10-percent of their respective sport based on the most recent multi-year Academic Performance Rate (APR).

Earning honors from CSU were cross country, men's basketball, men's and women's fencing and women's tennis.

This marks the eighth straight year that the CSU cross country team has been honored and the fifth consecutive year for the women's fencing team. Men's basketball and women's tennis are being honored for the second straight year, while men's fencing is earning its first honor.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.

The 976 teams publicly recognized for high achievement represent 594 women's teams and 382 men's or mixed squads.

Top performing APR's this year ranged from 978 to a perfect 1,000. A total of 268 schools, out of 346 Division I colleges and universities, placed at least one team on the top APR list.

Full APR scores for all teams will be released on June 11.
