Women's Tennis Continues League Play At Youngstown State

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue Horizon League play this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State for its lone match. The Vikings will take on YSU at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. Entering Saturday's contest, CSU stands at 7-8 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Against Youngstown State: Over the past 10 seasons Cleveland State is 6-6 against the Penguins, and is on a three-match win streak against YSU heading into Saturday's contest. YSU stands at 9-7 on the season and will face Duquesne prior to Saturday's match. The Penguins also won their league opener last weekend, posting a 4-3 victory over Detroit.

Last Time Out: The Vikings split their matches last weekend, dropping a hard-fought 4-3 contest at Akron and defeating Detroit, 5-2 in their Horizon League opener. The win against the Titans marked the fifth straight year that CSU has won its league opener, and improved the Vikings' league record to 22-3 over the last four seasons.

Sherwood Notches 50th Career Victory: With her victory at No. 4 singles against Akron last Saturday, Kara Sherwoodnotched the 50th win of her career, becoming the ninth Viking to reach the milestone. Entering the weekend, Sherwood is tied for eighth on the all-time singles wins list at CSU with 51 wins, needing just six more victories to move into seventh on the list.

...Power Closing In On 50 Wins: Heading into the Youngstown State match Alex Power is just one win shy of notching 50 for her career and would become the 10th Viking to achieve the feat. Power picked up a three-set victory against Detroit last time out, and currently has five singles wins this spring. 

 
 
 


Vikings Remain Perfect At Home: Sunday's victory over the Titans kept Cleveland State's home record perfect this season, as the Vikings now stand at 4-0 when playing at home. Dating back to February 25, 2012, CSU has won 10 straight at home, including six league matches.

Three Have 2-0 Weekend: The trio of Kara SherwoodMaria Lazaris and Nicole Janek all went 2-0 in singles action last weekend, picking up six of Cleveland State's eight points. Sherwood has a team-best 8-5 singles record this spring, while Lazaris and Janek are close behind with seven wins each.
