Vikings Show Marked Improvement on Day One of Championship Meet

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's swimmers proved their mettle on day one of the league championship with top times in the relay events on Wednesday at Busbey Natatorium.

Wright State leads all teams after day one with 135 points, followed by UW-Milwaukee (104 points), and Green Bay (89 points). The Vikings sit in seventh place overall (48 points).

The day began as the women's 200 freestyle relay (Lesley Jones, Kristine Bunker, Kristina Nagy, Deanna Raedel, 1:38.61) improved by two seconds over their previous season-best time, finishing seventh overall.

"I was very impressed with the women," head coach Wally Morton said, "Every single one of them had her lifetime best time. Our goal is to get better and we got better today."

The 200 medley relay team (Sandra Bunker, Raedel, Katie Bellew, Jones, 1:50.75) also showed improvement on Wednesday, improving upon their previous best time by three seconds.

"I was very impressed with the spirit and enthusiasm the team showed today," Morton said.

Action resumes Thursday (Feb. 21) morning, with swimming prelims at 10:30 a.m., diving prelims at 2:00 p.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. at Busbey Natatorium. The final rounds will be broadcast on the Horizon League Network (available at CSUVikings.com) with full commentary.
