CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Lexie Kostelnik broke a school record and the Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined for 11 top-three individual finishes as both programs hosted the third and final day of the seventh annual Magnus Cup Sunday inside the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

The CSU men won the meet for the fifth consecutive season, tallying 1,871.5 points, the highest such figure by a Viking squad in the history of the meet. The Vikings' 543.5-point margin of victory was the largest in the history of the event.

The CSU women finished in fifth place among a meet-record 16 women's teams. The Vikings tallied 649.5 points as they finished in the upper third of the teams attending for the third straight season.

Kostelnik started off the finals session with a noteworthy performance as she just edged past her own school record in the 1650 freestyle. Her time of 17:03.00 helped her to a third-place finish despite entering the event as the ninth seed.

Senior Molly McNamara ended the meet with a splash as well as she won the final individual women's event—the 200 butterfly. It marks the third consecutive season McNamara has claimed the 200 fly at the Magnus Cup. She stopped the clock in 2:00.87.

Sophomore Alana Cartwright had a pair of individual runner-up finishes Sunday. She took second in the 100 IM in 55.47 seconds and also claimed silver in the 50 backstroke in 26.59 seconds. Sophomore Shaw Barney was 15th in the former event (59.94) while junior Chuchu Yang was sixth in the latter event (26.96).

One day after rewriting the top-10 performers in program history in the 400 IM, freshman Agnes Bahr was at it again in the 200 back.

Bahr finished in eighth place in 2:03.67, topping her prior personal best by over two seconds and becoming the sixth-fastest performer in program history. Junior Madisyn Jaszcz was 10th (2:05.55) while another rookie, Riley Drummond, took 14th (2:04.58) and also moved into the program's top-10 list in the event. Yang was 17th (2:06.45) while senior Michaela Bargardi was 23rd (2:07.00) in the field of 69.

Senior Claudia Zido posted a top-10 finish in the 100 free, taking ninth in 51.56 seconds. Junior Gabriella Marinelli (52.25) and sophomore Irena Weclawiak (52.45) both added top-25 finishes in the field of over 100 competitors. Weclawiak's time represented a new personal best.

Sophomore Libby Smith was CSU's top finisher in the 200 breaststroke, taking 14th in 2:22.47, while freshman Stephanie Sipple was the top Viking in the 50 butterfly, finishing in 27.01 seconds.

The quartet of Marinelli, Weclawiak, sophomore Maggie Hogsed and Zido finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:27.63.

Junior Dominic Poletta and sophomore Dominik Niedzialek both won their second individual event of the meet Sunday.

Poletta won the 50 butterfly in 22.06 seconds. Freshman Bob Lenart took bronze in 22.59 seconds while classmate Jack Krusinski was seventh in 23.18 seconds.

Poletta was also part of a strong Viking contingent in the 100 freestyle. Senior Jason van der Touw and junior DJ Arlsanian took second and third in 45.53 and 45.74 seconds, respectively. Arslanian had reset his career best in prelims (45.64). Junior Jack MacDonald took seventh (46.33), Poletta was ninth (46.63) and senior Sean Mulvin was 10th (46.73).

Niedzialek won the 200 backstroke by over a second, stopping the clock at 1:46.38. Sophomore Timothy Kubacki was sixth (1:51.42) while junior Ryan Johnston was ninth (1:52.49).

The Viking men also placed four among the top eight in the 200 breaststroke. Krusinski and senior Jared Stergar finished second and third in 2:03.21 and 2:04.05 with the former being a new personal best by over a second. Junior Tyler Stevenson and senior Addison Kaufmann were seventh and eighth in 2:05.11 and 2:07.69.

Junior Matthew Martin finished in fourth place in the 200 butterfly in 1:49.15 and became the sixth-fastest performer in program history in the event. Lenart was sixth (1:52.83), sophomore Liam Halpin was ninth (1:56.18) and senior MacJilton Lewis was 12th (1:55.29) in a new career best.

Sophomore Ryan Sedlak and Johnston finished sixth and seventh in the 50 backstroke in 24.16 seconds and 24.69 seconds, respectively.

Sophomore Alec Bowie was CSU's top finisher in the 1650 freestyle (16:03.89) while freshman Austin Harper was the top Viking in the 100 IM (57.06).

Poletta, Arslanian, van der Touw and MacDonald took second in the 400 free relay in 3:02.29.

The CSU men won the meet for the sixth time in seven years overall. The Vikings' point total was the second-highest in meet history.

After a busy weekend, Cleveland State will take some time off from competition before resuming action on the second weekend of December.
