CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Molly McNamara of the Cleveland State University women's swimming & diving team was named Horizon League Female Swimmer of the Week in a recent announcement by CollegeSwimming.
This marks the fourth time this season that McNamara claimed this honor from CollegeSwimming. She also earned five weekly awards from the League office this season, the most by any swimmer in 2017-18, male or female.
McNamara was also recently recognized as the HERO Sports Division I Women's Swimming & Diving HERO of the Week.
McNamara dominated at the League's Swimming & Diving Championships and was subsequently named Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year. She became just the second Viking to earn that honor and the first since 2005.
McNamara posted three school records in individual races during the meet, helped two relay teams break school records, won two individual titles in NCAA qualifying times and broke the Horizon League record in one event.
McNamara began the Championships on an individual level with a third-place finish in the 200 IM in a new school record 2:01.94. She topped the prior school record by .89 seconds and bettered her previous personal best by more than 1.25 seconds.
McNamara then won the 100 butterfly in 53.27 seconds, a new school and pool record. She was more than one second under the 'B' cut time and won the event by over a second. It was her first title in that event.
Domination became the name of the game for McNamara on Saturday in the 200 butterfly. She won the event in 1:57.69, a new school and League Championships record. Her time was nearly two seconds under the NCAA 'B' standard and put her almost five seconds ahead of second place. It was her second straight title in the 200 fly, making her the first Viking to win multiple Horizon League titles in this event.
McNamara also swam the third leg on both medley relays, helping the Vikings to a pair of runner-up efforts in school record times. She split race-bests (23.70, 53.28) in both events, helping Cleveland State finish in 1:40.51 and 3:42.21 in the 200 medley and 400 medley, respectively.
