McNamara Brings Home Fifth Weekly Honor of Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Molly McNamara of the Cleveland State University women's swimming & diving teams was named Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week as announced by the League office Tuesday afternoon.

It is the fifth weekly honor from the League office this season for McNamara. No other League swimmer, male or female, has more than two such honors this season.

McNamara, who was also named CollegeSwimming's Horizon League Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season, has now won eight weekly awards from the HL in her career.

McNamara dominated in winning all three individual events she entered in Cleveland State's dual at defending League champion Oakland this past weekend.

McNamara's first individual event of the day was the 200 butterfly, where she ran away from the field. McNamara won in 2:02.42, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up in that race. McNamara then claimed the 100 butterfly in 55.59 seconds, beating the second-place finisher by over 1.5 seconds. She then competed in the very next race, the 200 IM, and proceeded to win that one as well. McNamara won the IM in 2:07.96, topping the runner-up by over two seconds.

McNamara continues to hold the fastest times in the League this season in both butterfly events. She is also among the top eight in both IM events this season.

Cleveland State has now won the women's swimmer of the week honor after each of the past six weeks it has competed. Its six swimming awards this season are a League high.

Cleveland State returns to action this weekend with road duals at Youngstown State (Feb. 2) and Buffalo (Feb. 3).
