CSU Teams Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams both were named Scholar All-America Teams for the fall semester in an announcement by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) this week.

The women's team posted a 3.35 grade point average in the fall semester while the Viking men finished with a 3.21 grade point average. The CSU women tied for second-highest figure in the League while the Viking men were also second in the League.

It is the fourth consecutive semester in which both programs have claimed Scholar All-America honors.

Five Vikings on the women's side posted 4.0 GPA's during the most recent semester: senior Jamie VanDewerker, juniors Michaela Bargardi and Claudia Zido and freshmen Erica Henrichsen and Gracyn McQueary. Bargardi continues to own a 4.0 cumulative GPA in her third year as a Viking.

During the past fall semester, junior MacJilton Lewis led the way academically for the CSU men with a 3.94 GPA. Junior Curtis Roden, sophomore Jack MacDonald and freshman Dominik Niedzialek all achieved a GPA of at least 3.80 during the fall.

To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the previous semester.

Founded in 1922, the CSCAA—the oldest organization of college coaches in America—is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.

The CSU women continue action this weekend with road duals at Youngstown State and Buffalo.
