Rookies Sweep League’s Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A trio of student-athletes on the Cleveland State University women's swimming & diving team collected weekly honors in a pair of announcements Tuesday.

Freshmen Lexie Kostelnik and Erica Henrichsen were named Horizon League Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, by the League office. Meanwhile, junior Molly McNamara was named the Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.

All three Vikings played roles in helping Cleveland State to a dual win at Ashland this past weekend, the program's third win in a row.

The honors are the first of the season for Kostelnik and Henrichsen. This is the third time this season that McNamara has been recognized by CollegeSwimming and her sixth weekly award overall when combined with awards from the League office.

Kostelnik won both individual events she entered in dominating fashion in helping Clevleand State to a road dual win. She began her day by winning the 200 butterfly in 2:17.68, which was more than four seconds ahead of the runner-up. Kostelnik then proceeded to win the 500 freestyle in 5:16.62, as she touched the wall more than 10 seconds clear of the field. She also swam during the 200 free relay for CSU and tied for the fastest split on the anchor leg by any of the six relay squads.

Henrichsen placed first in both diving events in helping Cleveland State to a road dual win. She scored 228.45 points in the 1-meter event and 236.25 points in the 3-meter competition. Henrichsen's score in the 1-meter event was over 20 points higher than her score from CSU's last competition.

McNamara joined Kostelnik in winning a pair of individual events at Ashland. She topped the field in the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.04 and touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 58.11 seconds. She won both events by over two seconds and was swimming the 200 breaststroke for the first time as a collegian. She also swam the fastest third leg of the 200 medley relay out of the five relay teams that entered the event.

After each of the past four weeks that the CSU women have competed, a Viking has subsequently been named Swimmer of the Week by the League office.

Cleveland State is taking time off from competition over the semester break and will resume action at home Friday, Jan. 12, as it hosts League foes IUPUI and UIC.
