Taffner Named Horizon League Diver of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Tori Taffner of the Cleveland State University women's swimming and diving team was named Horizon League Women's Diver of the Week by the League office this week.

This is the first such honor of Taffner's career and the first Women's Diver of the Week award for a Viking since Samantha Sposet claimed the honor in the 2013-14 season.

Competing for the first time in nearly two months, Taffner began her week by sweeping the diving events in CSU's dual meet at UIC.

She won the 1-meter event with 240.90 points and claimed the 3-meter competition with 244.73 points. In the 1-meter event, Taffner produced three dives that notched at least 40 points. Taffner started the 3-meter event strong as she scored 46.58 points from her inward 2.5 somersault tuck, which proved to be her highest scoring dive of the day. She ended the competition with a 45-point dive, on a back 1.5 somersault 1.5 twist free, to help her secure first place.

Taffner procured another first-place finish this past Monday when she won the 1-meter event against Youngstown State. She began that event with her highest scoring dive of the week, posting 50.40 points on an inward 1.5 somersault pike. That helped her to a total of 246.68 points, which put her on top of the eight-person field. With her help, the Vikings won the meet by 45 points over their League foe.

Taffner also finished third in three-meter diving against YSU with 246.75 points.

Taffner and her teammates will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 21, at Wright State.
