McNamara Earns Weekly Horizon League Honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Molly McNamara of the Cleveland State University women's swimming team was selected as the Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week as announced by the League office Wednesday morning.

This is the second such award of the season for McNamara and the third of her career.

McNamara earned the honor after being a leading reason why CSU posted its highest finish (4th) and its highest point total (800.5) at the Magnus Cup since 2013 despite the fact that the meet was the largest ever this year with 14 teams competing.

McNamara began the weekend by finishing second out of 86 swimmers in the 200 IM. She finished in 2:03.28, a new career best, and less than a half-second off the school record. McNamara also swam the third leg of the 400 medley relay Friday, a group that finished second in 3:45.55.

The 2016 Horizon League Freshman of the Year began Saturday with a bang, as she broke the school record in the 100 butterfly in the morning preliminaries. She went on to top that mark in the finals and finished in second place of 79 swimmers in 54.36 seconds, a mark fast enough to secure a NCAA 'B' cut time. She also swam on the 200 medley relay team Saturday that finished fourth in 1:43.14.

McNamara finished her weekend in style by winning the 200 butterfly in 1:59.93, less than a quarter-second off of her own school record time.

McNamara currently owns the fastest time in the League this season in the 100 butterfly, the 200 butterfly and the 200 IM.

Cleveland State will return to action Saturday, Dec. 10, when it hosts Canisius in a dual meet in its final action of the calendar year.
