Cleveland State Softball Accepts Bid to NCAA Norman Regional

Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State softball team will make the program's third appearance in the NCAA Tournament this week as the Vikings will travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the NCAA Norman Regional in the 2024 NCAA Softball Tournament.

Cleveland State defeated Northern Kentucky on Sunday to win the program's third Horizon League Tournament Championship and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Cleveland State is making its first tournament appearance since 2009. The first appearance for the program came in 1997.

Cleveland State will take on the host Oklahoma Sooners in the opening round of the double-elimination regional tournament. Oklahoma is the no. 2 national seed and one of 16 regional hosts in the tournament field. The opening round game will take place on Friday, May 17 at Oklahoma's Love's Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST on ESPNU. 

Oregon and Boston University will match up in the second first round game in the regional. The two winning teams from the first-round games will play in the winner's bracket game on Saturday, May 18 and the two losers will play in an elimination game also scheduled for Saturday. The regional concludes with the final game scheduled for Sunday, May 19.

The winner of the regional round advances to one of eight Super Regionals held at campus sites across the country. The Super Regional pits two regional winners in a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Oklahoma City.
