Cleveland State Sweeps Horizon League Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - For the second straight week, the Cleveland State softball team swept the league's weekly awards, as both Hanna Griffin and Taylor Duncan were named the Horizon Leauge Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Griffin logged back-to-back complete games as the Vikings took three of four games against Charleston Southern and College of Charleston over the weekend. The junior tossed eight full frames in Cleveland State's 4-3 extra-innings win on Saturday, needing only 83 pitches, including 57 strikes. Griffin allowed only a pair of earned runs on seven hits to pick up her first victory of the season. She followed it up with seven innings of five-hit, shutout ball in a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon, surrendering only one walk while striking out three.

Griffin is the ace on a Vikings pitching staff that features three hurlers with sub-2.00 ERAs. She has logged a 1.72 ERA across her three appearances, allowing only five earned runs over 20.1 innings of work and striking out nine.

Duncan went 6-12 (.500) at the dish with a pair of doubles, three RBI, two walks and a stolen base over the weekend as the Vikings took three of four road games in doubleheaders against Charleston Southern and College of Charleston. On Saturday, Duncan helped bring the Green and White back from an early 3-0 hole, driving in a pair of runs with a double to left field in the third inning before coming around to score. She also scored the game-winning run in extra innings, advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt before reaching home on a hit to right-center field. The junior logged the lone RBI of the contest in Cleveland State's 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Duncan is riding a five-game hitting streak, batting .438 with two multi-hit outings during that stretch. The right-hander brings a .292 season average into Cleveland State's upcoming four-game set against Presbyterian College.
