Chandler Rice Promoted to Assistant Coach

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State head coach Amy Kyler announced the promotion of Chandler Rice to assistant coach on the Vikings staff.

"Chandler has been an incredible worker and passionate member of our staff since she joined the program," said Kyler. "She has earned this opportunity through her work. Chandler has a great connection with our student-athletes and brings a vast amount of softball knowledge to our program."

Rice joined the Vikings coaching staff in the fall of 2018 as a part-time assistant coach.

"I'd like to thank Scott Garrett, Coach Kyler and the rest of the Cleveland State athletic administration for this opportunity," said Rice. "I have received so much support from the athletic department since becoming a part of the Vikings family and I couldn't be happier to have found a home here in Cleveland. I look forward to continuing to work side-by-side with Coach Kyler as we build a championship culture on the field and in the classroom."

Rice began her coaching career at Cleveland State after an outstanding playing career at Toledo.

Rice was a three-time First Team All-Mid-American selection at Toledo and also earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association all-region honors as a senior. She departed Toledo as the school's all-time leader in slugging percentage, runs scored, doubles and total bases. Additionally, she ranks second in Toledo history in batting average, hits, at-bats, runs batted in and home runs.

Equally adept in the classroom, Rice was named Second Team All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America and was an All-MAC academic selection.

Following her career at Toledo, Rice signed with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League.

Rice starred at Louisville High School in Louisville, Ohio. She was a two-time All-Northern Buckeye Conference selection and was the NBC Player of the Year as a junior.
