HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Lindsay Ward hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning and Kelly Hysong went 4-for-5 with two RBIs leading Cleveland State to a 9-6 Horizon League victory over Northern Kentucky in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Cleveland State, which improved to 15-33 overall and 8-15 in the Horizon League, dropped the opening game of the doubleheader 3-0. Northern Kentucky dropped to 18-31 overall and 11-11 in the Horizon League after the game two loss.
Hysong doubled to lead off the eighth inning for the Vikings to ignite their game-winning rally. She advanced to third base when Paige Hartley dropped down a bunt single and Lindsay Ward put Cleveland State ahead for good when she singled to center bringing home Hysong and giving the Vikings a 7-6 lead.
Riley Ries followed with a two-run single to right centerfield to score both Hartley and Lindsay Ward pushing the Cleveland State lead to 9-6.
Hanna Griffin retired the Norse in order in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn her seventh win of the season.

Hysong opened the game with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hartley. Lindsay Ward reached first on a bunt single to advance Hysong to third base and Alyssa Rose delivered a two-run double scoring both Hysong and Lindsay Ward giving Cleveland State an early 2-0 lead.
Sydney Bajusz pushed the lead to 4-0 when she ripped her third homer of the season to centerfield.
Northern Kentucky trimmed the lead to 4-3 by scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Vikings would answer to extend the lead.
Hallie Ward opened the CSU sixth inning by drawing a walk and advanced to third when Bailee Gray reached second base on an error. Hysong increased the lead to 6-3 with a double to center that plated both Hallie Ward and Gray.
Northern Kentucky rallied to tie the game at 6-6 by pushing across three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Northern Kentucky won the opening game of the doublehader 3-0 as Taylor Ginther pitched a one-hit shutout.
Cleveland State will conclude the 2019 season on Sunday (May 5) as the teams conclude the three-game series beginning at 12 p.m.
