INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State senior Riley Ries (Barberton, Ohio) has been named to the 2019 Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team as selected by the league's faculty athletic representatives and announced by the league office on Friday.
Ries earned the honor for the second time in her career after also being named to the 2018 all-academic team.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for all-academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester hour or 36 quarter hour credits.
Ries currently has a 3.70 grade-point average as an exercise science major and ranks as one of the top catchers in the Horizon League. She has started all 46 games for the Vikings this season and is second on the team with a .321 batting average and 25 RBIs. She leads the team with a .409 on-base percentage and has 12 doubles and two home runs.
Cleveland State closes out the regular season this weekend at Northern Kentucky with a three-game series.
