Vikings Drop Twinbill at Wright State to Conclude Season

FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team concluded the 2018 season with a pair of setbacks at Wright State on Saturday afternoon in a Horizon League doubleheader. 

The Raiders won the first game, 5-2, and claimed the nightcap, 7-5.

In the opener, WSU scored three in the first and after a Jordan Humitz RBI single in the third cut the lead to 3-1, the Raiders added single tallies in the third and fourth innings to push the lead to 5-1. The Vikings added an unearned run in the fifth on a Raider error.

Riley Ries and Mackenzie Joecken both had two hits for the Vikings, while Mel Woodard and Emily Hale each scored a run.

Taylor Miokovic pitched all six innings, giving up five runs - four earned - on seven hits with two strikeouts.

In game two, Hanna Breeded drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning and CSU added two more runs on a Raider error to take a 3-0 lead after one. The Raiders scored two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to gain a 4-3 lead, but RBI singles from Breeden and Olivia Jones in the sixth inning gave the Vikings a 5-4 advatage.

However, the Raiders came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain a 7-5 lead ad hold on for the win.

Ries and Humitz both had two hits, while Woodard, Ries, Humitz, Breeden and Talia Minisall each scored a run.

Joecken started for the Vikings and worked five innings with nine strikeouts.
