Vikings Head West For 11 Games Over Nine Day Stretch

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team will head west to play 11 games as part of its spring trip. The Vikings will play five games at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic this week and then play six games at the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic next week.

The Vikings were out of action last week and have not played since going 1-4 at the Belmont Tournament from Feb. 23-25 with CSU's six losses coming by a combined six runs.

Macy Kaisk has paced the Vikings at the plate through the first three tournaments of the spring, hitting .400 with four doubles, two homers and eight RBI. She leads the team with five multi-hit games and had a team-best six-game hitting streak earlier this year.

Mel Woodard is batting .353 with three RBI, while Riley Ries is hitting .294 with four doubles, two homers and a team-leading 14 runs batted in. The only Viking with a three-hit game this year, she also leads the team with five multi-RBI games this season.

Kait Gairing has hit .286 with two homers and four RBI in the early going.

The Vikings pitching staff has posted a 3.31 ERA this year as seven different pitchers have seen time in the circle.

Kaisk as started a team-leading five games this year and is 1-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 17.1 innings of work.

Kristin Catalano has made seven relief appearance this year, working 12 innings and posting a 1.17 ERA, giving up just two runs. Mackenzie Joecken is 4-1 with a 2.00 ERA and 20 strikeouts this year. She has started just two games, but has thrown 21 innings and also is one of three players with a save.

Hannah Breeden and Alicia Major also have saves.

Following CSU's trip through California and Hawaii, the Vikings are out of action until March 28 when CSU hosts Niagara for a doubleheader. The first game is slated for 2:00 pm.
