Ries Homer, Strong Pitching Lead Vikings Past Canisius, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Riley Ries hit a two-run homer in the first inning and three Cleveland State pitchers combined to allow just one run as the Vikings defeated Canisius, 2-1, in the final game of the CSU Dome Invitational on Sunday at the Krenzler Dome.

The Vikings won their third straight game and improved to 3-2 this year.

CSU scored both runs in the first as Macy Kaisk delievered a two-out double and Ries followed with a blast over the centerfield fence for her second homer of the year.

It was all the Vikings would need as Kaisk, Kristen Catalano and Alicia Major combined to give up just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Kaisk started and went three innings, allowing just one hit with a strikeout. Catalano worked the next two innings to earn her first win of the year as she gave up just one hit.

Major was in the circle for the final two innings, striking out three, to earn her first save of the year.

Canisius scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning and had runners on second and third with one out, but Major got a strikeout and pop-up to shortstop to end the game.

CSU is back in action next weekend, playing four games at the NC A&T Tournament from Friday through Sunday (Feb. 16-18).
