CLEVELAND, Ohio - Macy Kaisk worked nine innings in the circle and Mackenzie Joecken hit a homer in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings, but Cleveland State fell to Wright State, 2-1, in nine innings on Sunday afternoon at Viking Field.
Kaisk, who was making just her fifth appearance as a pitcher and third as a starter, gave up just two runs on eight hits with a strikeout. She kept the Raiders off the board until the seventh inning when WSU broke a scoreless game with a run.
However, Joecken led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer - her team-leading fourth of the season - to knot the game at 1-1 and send it into extra innings.
After both teams failed to score in the eighth, the Raiders used a solo homer from Alexis Mayle in the ninth to take a 2-1 lead and Ashley Sharp retired the Vikings in order to clinch the win for the Raiders.
Alicia Major went 2-for-3 to lead the Vikings, while Joecken and Bailee Gray also had hits.
CSU is back in action next weekend when the Vikings host Valparaiso for a three-game Horizon League series at Viking Field. The first game is slated for Friday (April 14) at 2:00 pm.
