Vikings Drop First Two to Wright State to Open Series

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State opened a Horizon League series against Wright State on Saturday at Viking Field, dropping a pair of games.

The Raiders won the opener, 8-0, and took the nightcap, 10-2.

In the opener, WSU took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings and scored six times in the sixth to break open the game.

The Raiders scored three times in the first inning of game two, but the Vikings came back with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Riley Ries RBI single scored Melissa Jacobsen.

However, WSU answered with four runs in the second and another in the third to take an 8-1 lead. Mel Woodard had an RBI groundout in the third to slice the WSU lead to 8-2, but the Raiders added two more in the fifth.

Ries and Hanna Breeden both finished 2-for-2 in game two, while Jacobsen and Kait Gairing also had a hit.

The final game of the series will be played on Sunday (April 9) at 1:00 pm.
