Softball Drops Final Two at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Cleveland State softball team dropped its final two games of the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

CSU fell to DePaul, 4-0, in its first game today and lost to host Winthrop, 9-2, to conclude play in the event.

DePaul scored one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to claim the win in today's first game.

Alicia Major fired a complete game in the circle, giving up four runs on seven hits with a strikeout. She also had one of CSU's three hits with Bailee Gray and Sofia Johantgen also recording a hit.

Against Winthrop, the Vikings got on the board with a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Mel Woodard and Kloee Cuckler drew back-to-back one out walks and moved up one base on Gray's two-out single.

Riley Ries followed with a bases loaded walk for the Vikings first run.

However, Winthrop tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second and added two runs in the third and two more in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

Macy Kaisk led off the fifth with a solo homer to slice the deficit to 5-2, but Winthrop came right back with a run of their own and three more in the sixth.

Kaisk finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

CSU is back in action with four games at the Jacksonville Tournament on Saturday and Sunday (March 11-12) with two games against both St. Bonaventure and Jacksonville.
