Vikings Drop First Two at Coastal Carolina Tournament

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Cleveland State softball team dropped its first two games at the Coastal Carolina Tournament on Friday. CSU fell to Campbell, 10-0, on Friday morning before falling to host CCU, 5-0, on Friday evening.

In the opener, Campbell scored eight runs over the first four innings to take an 8-0 lead.

Riley Ries got the Vikings on the board with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth - her first of the season - but the Camels came back with two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 10-1.

Ries, Melissa Jacobsen, Mackenzie Joecken and Marissa Marcelli all had one hit for CSU.

In the nightcap, CCU broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the fourth inning and added single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings.

Jacobsen, Joecken Bailee Gray and Hanna Breeden all had one hit for the Vikings.

The Vikings continue play in the Coastal Carolina Tournament with two games on Saturday (Feb. 25). CSU will play Morehead State at 9:00 am and host Coastal Carolina at 11:30 am.

CSU concludes play in the tournament on Sunday (Feb. 26) with a 9:00 am contest against Penn State.
