
CHICAGO, Ill. - Susan Knight and Alyson Broschk had two hits each, but fifth-seeded Cleveland State fell at top-seeded UIC, 3-0, on Thursday afternoon in the Horizon League tournament at Flames Field.
The Vikings fell to 20-31 this year and must wait to see when they will face their first elimination game of the tournament.
If second-seeded Wright State defeats sixth-seeded Valparaiso today - the game will begin at 4:15 pm ET - the Vikings would play the winner of tonight's YSU-Valparaiso elimination game at 12:00 pm on Friday (May 13) in an elimination game.
If Valparaiso defeats WSU today, then CSU would face Youngstown State tonight in an elimination game. That game would begin at approximately 6:45 pm ET.
UIC improved to 33-16 this year and advanced to face the winner of today's game between Wright State and Valparaiso on Friday at 2:30 pm. That winner will advance to Saturday's championship.
The Flames took a 2-0 lead in today's game with single tallies in the first and second innings.
In the third inning, the Vikings got back-to-back one out singles from Knight and Erica McNew, but a steady rain forced a 48-minute delay to the contest. When play resumed, Riley Ries was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but the next two Vikings were retired to thrawt the CSU rally.
The Flames added another run in the fifth on an RBI double by Laura Swan.
