Homers From Woodard & Knight Lead CSU Past YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cynthia Woodard and Susan Knight hit solo homers and Knight worked five strong innings in the circle as Cleveland State won at Youngstown State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon to claim the three-game series.

The Vikings, who won two of three in the series at YSU, improved to 19-14 overall and 4-5 in the league, while YSU fell to 12-20 overall and 5-6 in the league.

Woodard gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead with her league-leading 17th homer in the first inning. It stayed that way until the third when Maria Lacantena delivered an RBI double for the Penguins.

Knight led off the sixth inning with a homer on a pitch with two strikes and Alex Radjen worked the final two innings to earn her second save of the season. She struck out the final two batters of the game with runners on first and second.

Knight and Woodard had two hits each for the Vikings, while Nena Doran, Erica McNew and Alyson Broschk had one hit apiece.

Knight worked five innings to earn the win and improve to 9-5 this season. She gave up just one run on five hits and struck out one. Radjen surrendered one hit over the final two innings and struck out three.

CSU is slated to return to action on Tuesday (April 14) with a doubleheader at Kent State beginning at 3:00 p.m.
