Vikings Slated to Play Four Games This Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team will play four road games this week, starting with a single game at Notre Dame on Wednesday (March 18) at 4:30 p.m.

The Vikings will open Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game series at Wright State, playing a single game on Friday (March 20) at 4:00 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday (March 21). The first game on Saturday is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.

The series was originally scheduled to be played in Cleveland, but Viking Field is unplayable due to cold and wet weather.

The Vikings enter the week with a 12-7 record and have played their last 13 games on the road after opening with three games at home in the CSU Dome Tournament.

CSU went 2-2 last week, sweeping a doubleheader at SE Louisiana and dropping two games at Jacksonville State. Cynthia Woodard paced the Viking offense, hitting .417 with three home runs with seven RBI.

As a team, the Vikings are hitting .302 with 31 home runs. A pair of Vikings are batting over .400 with five players hitting at least .300.

The duo of Erica McNew and Nena Doran continue to lead the CSU offensive attack. McNew is batting .479 with six homers and 21 RBI, while Doran, a three-time Horizon League Player of the Week, is hitting .435 with five doubles, seven home runs and 12 RBI.

Woodard is batting at a .373 clip with a team-best nine home runs and 17 RBI, while Mackenzie Joecken (.367) and Susan Knight (.364) are also batting over .350.

Katelind Phillips is just under the .300 mark, hitting .298.

Knight has also been impressive in the circle this spring, posting a 5-2 record with a 1.88 ERA. She has allowed just 14 runs (11 earned) in 41 innings of work with 35 strikeouts., while opponents are hitting just .221 against her.

Alex Radjen (4-2; 3.04 ERA; 48 SO) and Joecken (3-2; 3.80 ERA; 22 SO) have also pitched well for the Vikings.

The Vikings will return to action on Wednesday (March 25) when CSU hosts Niagara for a doubleheader. The first game is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
