Softball Alters Schedule; Will Now Play in Jacksonville

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team has altered its weekend schedule and will now play four games in the Dolphin Classic at Jacksonville this weekend.

CSU was originially slated to play five games at the Western Kentucky Invitational from Friday through Sunday, but inclement weather in the area forced the cancellation of the tournament.

The Vikings will open play at the Dolphin Classic with a 10:00 a.m. game against Campbell on Friday (Feb. 27) and will play host Jacksonville later in the day at 5:30 p.m. CSU concludes play in the event with an 9:00 a.m. game versus Abilene Christian on Saturday (Feb. 28) and will play Campbell at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Vikings are 5-3 this season, having won all three games at the CSU Dome Invitational to open the season and going 2-3 at the Dot Richardson Invitational in Clermont, Fla., two weeks ago.

Senior third baseman Nena Doran has paced the Viking offense in the early part of the season, hitting .571 (16-28) with 10 runs, three doubles, three homers and five RBI. She was the Horizon League Player of the Week in each of the first two weeks of the season.

Alyson Broschk, a second team all-league pick last year, is batting .438 with five RBI this season, while Erica McNew is hitting .421 with two doubles, three home runs and a team-leading 10 RBI during the early part of the season. McNew has been named to the All-Horizon League first team in each of her first two seasons.

Cynthia Woodard has also started the season strong, hitting .360 with two homers and four RBI.

CSU's pitching staff has been extremely solid through eight games, posting a 2.06 ERA as a team and striking out a combined 51 batters with just 11 walks. Alex Radjen, the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17, is 3-0 with a 1.36 ERA and 28 strikeouts. She has fired three complete games and has one save as opponents are hitting just .216 against her.

Freshman Mackenzie Joecken is 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA, while Susan Knight went 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA and 11 strikeouts to just one walk at the Dot Richardson Invitational after missing the first weekend of the season.

The Vikings are slated to return to action at the Southeast Missouri State Tournament with two games on March 7 and a single contest on March 8.
