Vikings Beat Canisius, 8-4, Finish Dome Tourney 3-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Nena Doran and Katedlind Phillips combined for seven of Cleveland State's nine hits and Alex Radjen fanned eight as the Vikings completed a perfect weekend in the CSU Dome Tournament with an 8-4 win over Canisius on Saturday morning.

CSU, which defeated Toledo and Niagara on Friday, moved to 3-0 this season, while the Golden Griffins dropped their season opener.

Doran went 4-for-5 with a double and home run this morning, driving in two runs and scoring twice. She finished the three games in the dome 8-for-12 with four runs, two homers and four RBI.

Phillips was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Cynthia Woodard and Erica McNew both went 1-for-2 with two walks each.

Radjen earned her second win in as many days, firing her second straight complete game. She allowed six hits and four runs (two earned), while walking just one.

After Canisius scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, CSU answered right back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Doran ledoff with a single and after moving to second on a wild pitch, came all the way around from second base to score on Hannah Yoe's groudout to the right side.

After walks to Woodard and McNew, Woodard came around to score on a wild pitch and McNew made it 3-1 when she scored on an RBI double from Phillips.

McNew made it 5-1 in the third with a two-run homer to left center, her second in as many days and the 26th of her career, tying her for second place on the all-time list at CSU.

Doran delivered a one out solo homer in the fourth to make it 6-1 and after a Golden Griffin run in the top of the fifth, the VIkings answered in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by Doran that scored pinch runner Sydney Choe.

Lindsey Silfer brought Canisius within three (7-4) with a two-run homer in the sixth, but Alisha Silva drew a bases loaded walk to get one of the runs back and after giving up a two-out single in the seventh inning, Radjen induced a flyball to left field to end the game.
