Softball Drops Two Games at Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio - Cleveland State dropped a pair of games at Wright State on Saturday, dropping the opener, 9-2, and falling in the nightcap, 4-3.

The two setbacks drop CSU to 25-17 overall and 8-7 in the Horizon League, while Wright State improves to 17-30 overall and 12-6 in the league.

Wright State scored single runs in the second and third innings of game one to take a 2-0 lead, but the Vikings came right back to tie the contest with two runs in the fifth inning. Nena Doran had an RBI fielder's choice, while Janessa Rivera-Keahi scored an unearned run and a WSU error.

However, the Raiders would score seven runs on eight hits in the sixth inning to break the contest open and claim the win in game one.

The Vikings were held to just four singles in the opener.

CSU scored first in the nightcap, using a run in the fourth inning to claim the lead. Back-to-back one out singles from Hannah Yoe and Cynthia Woodard and a walk to Erica McNew loaded the bases and Alyson Broschk followed with a sacrifice fly to score Yoe.

After the Raiders tied to game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth, Doran gave the Vikings a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning with a two-run homer that also scored Alisha Silva who had singled earlier in the innings.

However, WSU responded once again with three runs in the fifth inning to regain a 4-3 lead. The Vikings were able to get the tying run on third base with two outs in the top of the seventh, but the Raiders escaped any further damage with a game-ending fielder's choice.

Five different players had one hit in game two as the Vikings were limited to five hits.

The three-game series will conclude with the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
