Vikings Win Series Finale at Detroit, 7-1, to Sweep Series

DETROIT, Mich.-  The Vikings defeated Detroit 7-1 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale.  CSU pulled away in the top of the seventh inning with four insurance runs to seal the victory.  The Vikings are now 24-15 overall and are 8-5 in conference play.

Cleveland State was up 3-1 heading into the seventh, as Cynthia Woodard and Erica McNew hit back-to-back homeruns adding to the lead.  Woodard belted a two-run homer giving her nine bombs on the season and added her 23rd and 24th RBI of the season to give the Vikings a comfortable 5-1 lead. 

McNew followed Wodard hitting her sixth homerun of the season and added 16 RBI to her stat total.  The CSU bats would not let up on Detroit pitching as Alyson Broschk doubled down the left field line.  Katelind Phillips would then double as well scoring Broschk to seal a 7-1 Viking victory.

Cleveland State scattered 11 hits in the ball game and CSU pitching allowed only three hits.  Sara Shields earned her seventh win going two innings of work.  Alex Radjen relieved her going five innings allowing only two hits, two walks, and one strikeout.  Other key contributors for CSU were Hannah Yoe who went 1-4 with an RBI double (5) and scored twice.  Nena Doran went 2-4 with two singles.

The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, April 29, as CSU will travel to Akron for a twinbill slated for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
