Vikings Sweep Doubleheader From St. Francis (Pa.)

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Susan Knight and Alex Radjen combined to give up just one run on nine hits as Cleveland State swept a nonconference doubleheader from St. Francis (Pa.) on Thursday afternoon in the CSU Dome.

The Vikings won game one in eight innings, 2-1, and rode a 12 strikeout performance from Radjen to a 4-0 win in the second game.

CSU, which improved to 9-1 in the dome this year, moved to 17-11 on the season, while the Red Storm fell to 18-10.

St. Francis broke a scoreless tie in game one on a leadoff homer from Alexis Bower to start the sixth inning. However, the Vikings came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout from Cynthia Woodard that scored Janessa Rivera-Keahi.

After neither team scored in the seventh, the team's used the international tiebreaker rule for extra innings, placing a runner on second base to start the inning. The Red Storm was able to get runners on second and third with two outs, but failed to score.

In the bottom of the eighth, Rivera-Keahi moved to third on a Hannah Yoe bunt and would score the game-winning run on Woodard's fielder's choice.

Woodard drove in both runs in the opener, while Rivera-Keahi had two hits and scored twice. Alyson Broschk also had two hits in game one.

Knight worked all eight innings, giving up just four hits, while striking out three to improve to 7-9 this season.

The nightcap belonged to Radjen as she fanned 12 batters and gave up five hits, improving to 5-1 with a complete game shutout. Radjen recorded eight strikeouts for the first 10 outs of the contest.

CSU gave Radjen the only run she would need in the third on a Yoe RBI single and would add three more runs in the sixth to break the game open. Broschk had an RBI single, while Nena Doran delivered a two-run single.

Yoe went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI in game two, while Doran finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Vikings were slated to return to action with a three-game series at Oakland on Saturday and Sunday, but those games have been canceled due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.
