McNew & Radjen Earn Player of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –Cleveland State sophomore catcher Erica McNew (Canton, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Player of the Week, while teammate junior Alex Radjen (Broadview Heights, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 24-30.

This is the first League honor for both players on the year.

Cleveland State played in a mid-week double-header against Toledo in the CSU Dome last Tuesday, earning a 5-4 win in the opener and picking up a 5-0 win in game two to complete the sweep.

The two victories moved Cleveland State to 12-10 overall on the year and stands at 3-1 in conference play.

McNew led the Vikings at the plate going 3-for-5 over the two games posting a .600 batting average. The sophomore hit a three-run homerun to centerfield in the first matchup to tally her 20th in her career. She is the fifth Viking in school history to reach 20 career homers.

In her 2-for-2 performance in game one at the plate she also hit a double and got on base with a walk. In the second game, the cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 and collected two more RBI for the Vikings. Overall for the day, she had a 1.400 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.

Radjen dominated in the circle to pitch a complete game 5-0 shutout win over Toledo in the second game of the doubleheader. She fanned eight and did not walk a batter while scattering four hits on the day.

Cleveland State takes on conference-foe Youngstown State in a double-header on the road today starting at 3:00 p.m. ET.
