Vikings Split Doubleheader With Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Alisha Silva hit a two-run, two-out, walk-off single to give Cleveland State a 4-3 win over Youngstown State in the second game of a Horizon League doubleheader on Monday afternoon at the YSU Softball Complex.

The Penguins won game one, 8-4.

CSU was the home team in both games as the series was moved to Youngstown due to unplayable field conditions at Viking Field due to snow. The games were pushed back from Saturday and Sunday and were finally able to be played today with the sun shining.

The split moves CSU to 13-11 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League this year, while the Penguins are now 15-11 overall and 2-2 in the league.

In game two, the Penguins took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the second, but the Vikings came back with two runs in the fourth on an RBI double by Katelind Phillips and an RBI single from Nena Doran.

The lead was short-lived as YSU came right back with two runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. In the seventh, Erica McNew started the rally with a one-out single, but was erased on a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning.

After Phillips walked, Doran kept the inning alive with a single to load the bases and Silva came through with a two-run single to end the game.

Doran finished game two 3-for-4, while Silva, McNew and Janessa Rivera-Keahi had two hits apiece.

Alex Radjen picked up the win to improve to 3-1 this year. She fired a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. She struck out three and walked just one.

Rivera-Keahi belted two home runs in the opener when she went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Alyson Broschk and Hannah Yoe had two hits each in game one.

The Penguins used three runs in the third and four more in the fifth to break open the game and claim the win.

CSU is back in action on Wednesday (April 2) when the Vikings host Niagara for a doubleheader in the CSU Dome. The first game is slated for 1:00 p.m.
