Softball to Host Toledo for DH in CSU Dome on Tuesday

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team will host Toledo for a doubleheader in the CSU Dome on Tuesday (March 25). The first game will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The twinbill will be CSU's first games since March 11, when the Vikings wrapped up its spring trip through Florida with a 9-1 setback to Boston U. The Vikings finished 3-4 on its trip down south and are 10-10 this year.

The Vikings were scheduled to open Horizon League play at Viking Field over the weekend, but the three-game series was postponed due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.

Cynthia Woodard has paced the CSU offense this season, hitting .400 with team-highs in home runs (5), doubles (6) and RBI (17). Katelind Phillips tops the squad with a .420 batting average, while sophomore Erica McNew is hitting .276 with a homer and three runs batted in.

Senior Sara Shields and sophomore Susan Knight form a solid pitching duo in the circle, combining for nine wins, a 2.90 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 112 innings of work. Shields is 5-1 with a 2.83 ERA and a save. She threw a no-hitter in a win over Quinnipiac in Florida, the 12th no-hitter in school history.

The snowy, cold winter has also toyed with Toledo's schedule this spring as the Rockets have not played since going 1-3 at the Hoosier Classic on March 14-15.

CSU leads the all-time series with Toledo, 11-10-1, but the Rockets swept the most recent doubleheader, earning 4-0 and 4-3 wins over CSU on April 28, 2010.

Following the doubleheader with Toledo, the Vikings are slated to once again try and open league play this weekend with a three-game series against Youngstown State at Viking Field. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
