Woodard & Shields Sweep League Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State junior shortstop Cynthia Woodard was named the Horizon League Player of the Week, while senior Sara Shields was tabbed the Pitcher of the Week as the Vikings swept the weekly awards for the week of March 3-9.

In helping CSU go 3-2 at the USF Under Armour Classic over the weekend, Woodard hit .333 with three runs, a double, a home run and four RBI.

In wins over Quinnipiac and Boston University, Woodard went a combined 4-for-8 with two RBI and three runs. She also drove in two runs in a 4-3 loss to St. John's.

Shields was impressive in the circle, working 10.2 innings and posting a 2-0 mark with a 1.31 ERA and 12 strikeouts. She fired a five inning no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Quinnipiac, the 12th no-hitter in program history. Shields fanned six in the game.

She also picked up the win against Boston University, working four innings of relief, giving up just one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

CSU concludes its trip through Florida with a 1:15 p.m. game vs. Boston University on Tuesday (March 11).
