Vikings Split Two at USF Under Armour Classic

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Cleveland State softball team split a pair of games at the USF Under Armour Classic on Saturday, defeating Boston U., 5-3, but dropping a 13-0 decision to Boston College.

The win over Boston U. extended CSU's win streak to four straight before the streak was snapped by BC.

The Vikings are now 10-7 this season.

CSU pounded out 11 hits in the win against Boston U., including a first inning solo home run from Cynthia Woodard that helped the Vikings take the early lead. After the Terriers scored two runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead, the Vikings came right back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Janessa Rivera-Keahi delivered the big hit with a two-run single that scored Erica McNew and Alyson Broschk.

Boston U. cut its deficit to 4-3 with a run in the top of the fifth, but Hannah Yoe delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that scored Katelind Phillips to give CSU a two-run cushion (5-3).

Woodard, Phillps, Rivera-Keahi and Yoe had two hits apiece.

Alex Radjen started and went three innings, while Sara Shields pitched the final four innings to earn the win and improve to 5-1 this year. The duo combined to limit Boston U. to just five hits, while striking out six.

CSU continues play at the USF Under Armour Classic with a 9:00 a.m. game against St. John's on Sunday (March 9).
