Vikings Split Two at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Cleveland State softball team defeated Gardner-Webb, 12-2, and fell to host Winthrop, 9-1, on the second day of the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The two-game split keeps CSU at .500 this season at 6-6.

In the opener, the Vikings trailed after five innings, but exploded late in the game, including two homers from Alyson Broschk.

In the nightcap, Winthrop used a four run third inning and five run sixth inning to claim the win.

CSU was limited to just three hits, including two from Katelind Phillips, aas the Vikings scored an unearned run in the first inning.

The Vikings close out play at the Winthrop Invitational on Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. contest against Robert Morris.
