CSU Falls to Furman to Open Winthrop Inviational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Cleveland State softball team dropped a 5-0 decision to Furman in the opening game of the Winthrop Invitational on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings fell to 4-5 this season, while Furman improved to 5-7.

Furman jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning, using a two-run homer to take an early 2-0 lead. They added single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings in claiming the win.

CSU was limited to just three hits in the game, one apiece by Susan Knight, Katelind Phillips and Janessa Rivera-Keahi.

Knight took the loss on the mound, going all six innings. She gave up five runs (three earned) and struck out five while walking just one.

CSU continues play in the Winthrop Invitational with a 5:00 p.m. contest against Wagner on Friday afternoon.
